Mt. Eden and Piha

Day 1 we landed in New Zealand and went to a rugby game before calling it a night.

Day 2 we visited Mt. Eden, one of many volcanoes in New Zealand. After that we went to Piha beach and saw some cool caves along the coast.

Rangitoto & Auckland

Day 3 we went to Rangitoto Island, climbed the volcano, and saw some beautiful views.

Day 4 we went to the Auckland Domain and spent the morning there. Unfortunately, a storm came in and made us head back to the house due to flood warnings.

Days 5-6 we spent mostly at the house, recovering from our travels, and hiding from the rain!

Hobbiton & Blue Springs

Day 7 we went to the famous site, Hobbiton, where they filmed the hobbit movies. We got a tour around all the different hobbit holes and the Green Dragon Inn. After that we travelled to the blue springs where the water is crystal clear. In some parts the water looked to be as deep as 10 feet, but you could see the bottom perfectly.

Glowworm Caves

Day 8 we went to the Glowworm caves and saw a bunch of cool different formation. The Glowworms are actually maggots that can grow as big as a match stick. They hunt bugs by hanging threads down that have a toxins on them. After the caves we went to the Hamilton Gardens and saw a lot of different gardens from different cultures.

Takapuna & Mission Bay

Day 9 we took a long walk down Takapuna beach. We enjoyed beautiful views of Rangitoto Island. After that we went through Devonport to Mission Bay. At mission bay we saw a lot of crazy big houses and enjoyed some fresh fish and chips.

Queenstown

Day 10-12 we travelled to the south island to explore the “adventure capital of the world”. We went on a 50 km bike ride through the country side. Unfortunately the second day there it rained all day, so we found a bunch of indoor activities, including a kiwi park, an indoor maze, a VR escape room, and more.

Butterfly Creek

Day 13 we flew back to Auckland from Queenstown. After we arrived, we went to a nearby zoo called Butterfly Creek, to kill some time. Finally, we spent the rest of the day relaxing and recuperating from our trip.

Huna & Kelly Tariton

Day 14 we visited Huna waterfall. It was easy to tell how much New Zealand is flooding by how much water was flowing over the waterfall. It is normally a fraction of the size it was. After that we went to Kelly Tariton Aquarium to see a bunch of penguins and other aquatic animals.

Day 15 we visited Megan’s mom and relaxed for the day.

Sky Tower and Boardwalk

Day 16 we took Oreo, the dog, for a walk along the coast by the marinas. We then went and enjoyed some wood fired pizza and steak sandwich.

Day 17 we went to the Auckland Sky Tower. We got to see some beautiful views of the city. It was an amazing way to end our time in New Zealand!

Day 18 we headed off to the next stop of our journey!
